For most users, cloud recording is more secure than local recording. If you only use local recording, then an intruder could steal /destroy your camera or DVR. With cloud recording, the recorded footage will be kept in the cloud securely.
Most IP cameras are cloud-enabled. But there are two types of IP cameras:
(1) Proprietary IP cameras. These cameras don't support open standard based IP camera protocols. They can only work with the manufacturer's service, software or NVR. You are basically locked in with the camera manufacturer.
(2) Non-proprietary IP cameras. There are many generic IP cameras that support open standard IP camera protocols. They work with 3rd party software, service or devices. Some cameras include an SD card slot for local recording.
CameraFTP is a cloud service provider. We don't make, sell, setup or manage IP cameras. Our service is compatible with most non-proprietary IP cameras. To use our service, you can configure your camera to upload footage to CameraFTP cloud via FTP, SFTP or SMTP. By default, your security camera is secure and private, unless you share or publish your camera with other people.
You can also save cost on camera or NVR devices by using an old phone, tablet or webcam as an IP Security Camera (or baby/pet monitor). Just install CameraFTP Mobile Security Camera app. If you have a PC, you can install CameraFTP VSS software and use it as a powerful CCTV NVR.
If you only want local recording, you can use CameraFTP VSS software. It supports local recording, but it requires an always-on PC.
